Is It Right For Me

Do not become a franchise consultant if…

For the right person, being a franchise consultant is a great business. But over 25% of all franchise consultants fail within the first 12 months. If any of these apply to you, there is a good chance you should pass.

A modern boardroom where serious franchise consulting business is conducted

You cannot survive the lengthy sales cycle.

For most new consultants it takes anywhere from 4–12 months before you close your first deal and start making money. That's just how the industry works as a franchise discovery process takes time.

You are not willing to market yourself — on your own.

Consultants that join a broker network with the illusion that just buying their 'provided leads' are very misguided and most likely destined to fail. Top producing consultants take their marketing seriously.

You are not good on the phone.

This business is 80% telephone, Zoom and email based, so if your communication skills are not top notch this business is probably not for you.

You are unwilling to become a true industry expert.

A salescript, suggested email drips and hunting and pecking through a database of brands is a fool's game. Highly successful consultants are industry experts on many levels.

You chase the commissions.

Your clients don't care what your commission is. If you think the franchise that pays you the fattest check is the right one for your prospect, your career as a franchise consultant will be short lived.

You didn't qualify for another franchise.

Some brokers suggest consulting because you aren't financially qualified for a larger investment. Most top producing consultants would rather most that join had not — it dilutes the prospect base.

You believe this can be done on nights and weekends.

A recruiter will tell you it can, but they are setting you up for failure. This is serious business and most serious business people conduct business during business hours.

Being a successful franchise consultant is real business and not for everyone. People are trusting you with their livelihoods, their future, their homes, their families. Good consultants respect that and rise to that occasion.
